About Thompson Rivers University

Thompson Rivers University is located in Kamloops, British Columbia and was founded in 1970 as Cariboo College, operating out of the Kamloops Indian Residential School. Initially, it was a transfer college, but in 1989 it became a university college, and in 2005 gained its current name and became a university in its own right.It currently has more than 25,000 students at its campuses - in Kamloops and Williams Lake - and through distance, online and Open Learning platforms. This includes more than 3,500 international students from over 100 countries. Student Life Thompson Rivers University’s campuses are traditional lands of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc and the T’exeke within Secwepemcúlucw, the traditional and unceded territory of the Secwépemc. It’s a scenic area with lots of outdoor recreation available, while Kamloops is known as the Tournament Capital of Canada, hosting more than 100 tournaments a year. There are several student support programs in place at Thompson Rivers University. This includes Student Mentorship and Leadership, where students can volunteer to act as peer mentors for fellow students. There are over 70 student clubs available at the University.
